Foundation phase: Grade R
Grade R is the bridge from the tangible world to the world of symbols and numbers in Grade 1. Therefore, we focus on an integrated play-based programme that aims to develop the children’s phonological, literacy, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills in a fun way. Children are also introduced 21st-century learning through playing with Duplo Lego, which forms the basic foundations of later Robotics studies and greatly help to strengthen gross- and fine motor skills.
Foundation phase: Grade 1 to Grade 3
In Grade 1 to Grade 3 we focus on teaching the basic skills, concepts and knowledge required for further learning. At The King’s School, we offer a vibrant, invitational atmosphere where learners enjoy coming to school and where they acquire a love for learning that will sustain them throughout their school years. We also create opportunities for personal growth so that learners can become personally responsible and accountable for their actions in the intermediate phase.
Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 6 (and Grade 7)
In these grades, the emphasis is still on establishing basic foundations, but learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work. We prepare learners for high school by teaching them how to apply the 21st-century learning skills and concepts they have learned. We also promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging learners to make their own choices within well-established boundaries. Learners from this phase onwards further use tablets in class in support of our enhanced curriculum.
We use tablets in class
As a Curro Select school, learners use e-books on tablets in class rather than physical textbooks. Through an enhanced curriculum, as well as innovative technology and teaching methods, our teachers are able to provide learners with additional explanatory material and other creative, helpful resources in our modern classrooms.
We provide pastoral care
As part of our devotional beliefs, based on Christian values (ethics and morals), we have a team of teachers who provide pastoral care to learners. These grade-specific coordinators at The King’s School provide spiritual and emotional guidance to learners, and help them balance their interests in academics and additional activities.
