Ke Nako! Festival of Voices unites 19 Curro schools
02 October 2025Learners from 19 Curro schools came together at the Ke Nako! Festival of Voices, filling The Canvas at Riversands I-Hub in Fourways with music and energy. The event brought choirs from across South Africa into one celebration of tradition, contemporary song, and community.
Choirs from across the country
The festival began with lively arrivals as some learners broke into song the moment they reached the host campus, Curro Riverside. Performances throughout the event showcased an impressive variety, from traditional African works to modern favourites. Each choir contributed its own sound to the shared stage, creating a rich blend of voices.

419 voices strong
The highlight was the mass choir of 419 learners performing This is Me. The anthem captured the spirit of the gathering, while parents, guardians, teachers, and Curro staff joined the final evening celebration.
Belinda Gibson, Executive Head of Curro Riverside, reflected on the purpose behind the event: ‘I am driven every day by the needs of our communities. I sing because I believe that together, we have a collective voice and responsibility to influence and improve the lives of the children we are blessed to work with every day.’

Beyond the stage
The festival gave learners the opportunity to perform, but they also built confidence, strengthened teamwork, and carried school pride onto the stage. The journey from Curro Create rehearsals to performance night helped each participant grow musically and personally.
A moment that stood out came when more than 800 learners chanted ‘Curro, Curro’ in unison. The chant echoed through the venue and reinforced the sense of belonging that the festival aimed to create.

Looking to 2026
While the echoes of this year’s festival will last, planning has already started for the next event. Ke Nako! 2026 is expected to bring the same joy and pride, and again remind us that when voices come together, harmony follows.
