Parkdene Academy learners excel at Maths-A-Thon Challenge

What is a Maths-A-Thon?

A Maths-A-Thon is a structured challenge where learners solve as many problems as possible across different formats and rounds. The goal is to encourage mathematical thinking, promote friendly competition, and build confidence through active participation. Unlike traditional tests, the focus is on fun, timed challenges that engage learners in new ways.

Games and format

The Parkdene Academy Maths-A-Thon featured two fast-paced games – Maths 24 and Mathster Blast. Learners competed across multiple rounds designed to test both speed and accuracy, with the top three competitors in each game recognised for their performance.

  • Maths 24 results
    1st place – Motheo Maloka
    2nd place – Olebogang Manganye
    3rd place – Kagiso Magooa
  • Mathster Blast results
    1st place – Smelokuhle Mkhize
    2nd place – Leago Mokubetsi
    3rd place – Thato Stona

Learners shine

The competition reflected weeks of preparation. All participants gave their best on the day, demonstrating persistence and focus through each round. Teachers and peers celebrated their efforts, while the winners earned special recognition for finishing at the top.

Building mathematical confidence

The event aligned with the broader goals of Maths-A-Thons around the world: encouraging practice, promoting analytical skills, and developing positive attitudes toward mathematics. Parkdene Academy’s version captured the essence of these challenges without a fundraising component, focusing instead on learning and achievement.
