Curro Halala Cup kicks off

The much-anticipated Curro Halala Cup officially kicked off this week with an exciting live draw event, setting the stage for one of the most thrilling school football tournaments in South Africa. The competition will feature 60 top school football teams, from both public and private schools, all vying for the title and a chance to showcase their skills on a national stage.

 

A showcase of South African talent

The Curro Halala Cup brings together school teams from across the country, providing a platform for young footballers to display their talent and compete at the highest level. The tournament will consist of two knockout rounds. The first round will feature 60 schools, with the top 32 teams advancing to the second knockout round. The top 16 teams will then proceed to the grand finals, set to take place at HeronBridge College in Gauteng from 8 to 10 August 2025.

The excitement surrounding the tournament is palpable, and teams are already preparing for the competition. The Curro Halala Cup is a celebration of skill, opportunity, and sportsmanship. It offers young athletes the chance to demonstrate their abilities and compete for national recognition.

 

 

Meridian Northern Academy leads the charge

Meridian Northern Academy has already established itself as a powerhouse in South African school football. The team recently made headlines by being crowned Under-19 National Champions at the 2024 Kay Motsepe Schools Championship. This victory catapulted many of the academy's players into the national spotlight, with some even representing the country at the national level. Their reputation continues to grow, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in a recent friendly match further solidifying their position in South African football.

‘Competing in this tournament gives young athletes the chance to demonstrate their talent, open doors for future opportunities, and form lasting friendships that will extend beyond their school years, into university and adulthood,’ said Cind. ‘Curro is incredibly proud to contribute to the development and growth of football at school level in South Africa.’

The tournament will be live streamed on SuperSport Schools (channel 216), the SuperSport Schools app, and the WhatsApp broadcast channel, allowing fans across the country to follow the action.
