Curro Roodeplaat U17 rugby team wins league and shines in Noordvaal Cup
30 September 2025Curro Roodeplaat High School’s U17 Boys Rugby Team has wrapped up an outstanding season by winning the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU) Schools Division 4 League and advancing to the semi-finals of the SDC Noordvaal Cup.

Strong league performances
The team showed resilience throughout the BBRU Schools Division 4 League:
- CRP vs Akasia – lost 17–22
- CRP vs Maragon Mooikloof – lost 22–26
- CRP vs FH Odendaal – won 12–5
- CRP vs Suiderberg – won 34–12
- CRP vs Magalies – lost 19–21
In the knockout stages, Curro Roodeplaat beat FH Odendaal 19–17 in the semi-final and then overcame Maragon Mooikloof 17–13 in the final. This victory secured the league title for the U17 side.

Noordvaal Cup journey
Winning the league gave the team entry into the SDC Noordvaal Cup, a competition between six Rugby Unions in the Noordvaal region.
- Quarter-final: CRP vs Dr Johan Jurgens – won 22–20
- Semi-final: CRP vs Vryburger (Germiston) – lost 26–27
The semi-final, played in August, was a close contest that saw Curro Roodeplaat narrowly lose by a single point.
Pride in performance
Despite the narrow defeat, the team earned praise for their attitude. The school highlighted how the boys ‘showed guts, determination and they demonstrated true sportsmanship and held their heads high after the close encounter.’
Head of High School, Gerrit Jacobs, added that the school community is proud of the team’s achievements and excited to see many of these players feature in the 1st team league next year.
