Developing local education, St Doms host first-ever athletics day

In local schools news, St Dominics Newcastle kicked off the week by introducing its students to a more competitive era of athletics. This follows the Curro school’s first formal athletics day on Monday, 24 January 2022, at Amajuba School, Newcastle.

Giving us a rundown of the day’s significance, St Dominics Newcastle’s Executive Head, Chad Moses, explains, “While we have always held fun athletics days at the school, this is the first time we have officially hosted an actual athletics day after we formally introduced athletics to St Dominics in 2021. The aim is to get our students not only involved in the various sports codes in athletics but hopefully participate in the Curro Cup for Athletics.”

To keep you in the loop, the Curro Cup hosts thousands of students from various Curro schools who compete in National Inter-School events for rugby sevens, soccer, netball, hockey, tennis, athletics, swimming, golf, and mountain biking.

Furthermore, Moses says the introduction of athletics to St Dominics Newcastle learners exposes them to entirely new sporting codes, never offered before.
