A top-performing South African learner has gained admission to three of the world’s most selective universities, with The King’s School Linbro Park’s 2025 Head Boy, Buhlebenkosi Mhlongo, accepted to Harvard University, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford University.

 

Global university offers

Buhlebenkosi Mhlongo has earned places at institutions known for highly competitive admission processes. Each offer reflects sustained academic performance, strong leadership involvement and consistent engagement beyond the classroom.

‘From Mzansi to the Ivy League, this is what excellence embodies,’ the school said, adding that Buhle’s journey ‘is redefining the limits of possibility’.

His intended study paths reflect a clear academic direction:

  • Applied Mathematics and Economics (Financial Markets) at Harvard
  • Management Science and Engineering at Stanford
  • Finance at Wharton

These fields require advanced analytical thinking, quantitative strength and strategic problem-solving.

 

A record of academic and leadership performance

Buhle has maintained a place in the Top 10 since Grade 8 and is a recipient of a Ruta Sechaba Foundation scholarship, a programme that supports high-potential learners through academic development and opportunity access.

His leadership roles developed steadily through high school, and he served as one of the school’s first Grade 11 prefects before taking on the role of Head Boy. His involvement extended into sport and academics as Soccer Captain, Head of Soccer and President of the Mathematics Lounge.

The school noted that his time on campus ‘is marked by influence and leadership’, reflecting both academic commitment and contribution to the broader school environment.

 

Building towards international impact

Admission to universities such as Harvard, Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania places Buhle among a small group of South African learners who reach this level each year. The pathway typically demands strong results, leadership experience and clear long-term goals.
